Contemporary highlights include singer/songwriter Lady Gaga’s glamorous green Christopher John Rogers gown and accompanying mask from the 2020 VMAs, actress and screenwriter Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s ethereal Monique Lhuillier gown worn at the Emmy’s in 2019 and Singer Lizzo’s glitzy black and gold Thom Browne gown and cape worn at the 2022 Met Gala, an annual hub of trailblazing couture fashion. Another showstopper look from the Met Gala includes a shimmering gold catsuit worn byPosestar Billy Porter in 2019 – designed by The Blondes and entitled太阳神, the outfit is a theatrical creation complete with wings and inspired by Ancient Egypt.

Contemporary masterpieces will sit alongside historic dress from the Royal Ceremonial Dress collection, including the ‘Rockingham Mantua’ – an 18th-century gown comprising a fitted bodice, narrow train and spectacular wide petticoat – demonstrating how the past has informed the present in the creative world of couture fashion.
