This exhibition explores the life and career of trailblazing photographer Yevonde and her pioneering use of colour within the medium in the 1930s.
Feminist, suffragette and groundbreaking artist, Yevonde set up her own studio in her native London after an apprenticeship with portraitist Lallie Charles. Gradually breaking away from traditional poses and techniques, Yevonde also started to experiment with colour, using Vivex (an early type of colour photography), for which she became renowned.
This exhibition showcases works by Yevonde acquired by the National Portrait Gallery in 2021, spanning a career of over 60 years.
