This iconic, neoclassical building is home to a renowned gallery, creative studios and five restaurants and cafés.

An 18th century architectural masterpiece, Somerset House surrounds a peaceful courtyard on four sides. This is London?s working arts centre, where over 300 professional makers are based at the Somerset House Studios, public events including London Fashion Weekend take place year-round, and art-lovers flock to see the prestigious Courtauld Gallery.

Designed by William Chambers, Somerset House was built on the site of Edward Seymour?s palace on the banks of the Thames. The original building witnessed watershed moments in history, including the signing of the Treaty of London, before being demolished in 1775. Today, guided tours highlight Somerset House?s past, as well as showcasing the work of the burgeoning creative businesses here.

Over three million people visit the shops, five eateries, gallery and studio here annually, with passersby encouraged to escape the hubbub of London in the courtyard for free.
